先日、ノーベル平和賞の受賞者が発表されましたね。今年はインドのカイラシュ・サティアティさん（60）と、パキスタンのマララ・ユスフザイさん（17）の2人が選ばれました。ちょうどその日、国際ガールズデーの記念イベントの一環として開かれていた、ドキュメンタリー映画のプレミア上映会の会場にいたので、その場に居合わせた皆さんと一緒にこの素晴らしい発表を知り、喜びを分かち合うことができました。
マララさんはまだ17歳ですが、私の人生において最も影響を受けた女性の一人です。彼女の持つ勇気、信念、豊かな知性、そして希望に満ち溢れた言葉の力――あらゆる面において学ばせていただくことばかりです。アウンサン・スーチーさんもそうですが、信念に生きる女性たちの姿を見ると、いつも勇気を点火されます。そして、決して希望を手放してはいけないと、背中を押される思いがします。
2年前、女子教育の権利を唱えたためにイスラム過激派の銃撃を受け、瀕死の重傷を負ったマララさん。一命を取り留めた後も決して屈することなくメッセージを発信し続け、学び続け、行動し続ける姿は、もはや世界中の女性たちにとって「希望の象徴」そのものです。その気高き信念と勇気ある行動には、畏敬の念さえ抱きます。
マララさんは、昨年7月にニューヨークの国連本部で、世界中から集まった500人の若者たちを前に歴史的な演説を行いました。その中で彼女は、高らかにこう“宣言”したのです。「テロリストは、私と友人を銃弾で黙らせようとしましたが（私の希望を砕こうとしましたが）、誰も私の行動を止めることはできません」と。思わず胸が熱くなりました。
中でも私が最も大きな衝撃を受けたのは、以下の下りです。
「私は復讐のために声を上げるのではありません。タリバンのメンバーや全てのテロリスト、過激派の子どもたちにも教育を受けてほしいのです。私は、自分を撃ったタリバン兵士さえも憎んではいません。私が銃を手にして、彼が私の前に立っていたとしても、私は彼を撃たないでしょう」――（演説当時）16歳を迎えたばかりの女の子に、私たち大人は、本当の意味での“寛容”について学ぶ機会を得た瞬間でもありました。確かに、ひとたび相手の挑発に乗ってしまえば、相手の低いレベルに自分を落とすことになってしまいます。たとえ、どんなに理不尽なことをされたとしても、「やり返す勇気」より、「やり返さない勇気」を選べること。マララさんを見ていると、そういう選択をできることこそ、真の教育の底力なのだと実感することができます。
そして、彼女のこのまっすぐで清らかな正義感は一体どこから迸るものなのか――その疑問も明らかになりました。マララさんはスピーチの中で、マーティン・ルーサー・キングやネルソン・マンデラ、マザー・テレサらといった哲人たちの名前を挙げ、彼らから慈悲の心や非暴力の哲学を学んだと言います。更に「これは私の父と母から学んだ“許しの心”」だとした上で、“穏やかでいなさい、すべての人を愛しなさい”と、彼女の魂が彼女に訴えかけるのだそうです。まさに、ご両親から継承された寛容の心。お父様は教育者でもあられるそうですが、立派なご両親のもとにこのようは素晴らしいお嬢さんが育つのだと、あらためてマララさんの人間力の源を見た思いがしました。
マララさんが銃撃を受けた直後も、すぐにブログを書かせていただきましたが、一人の勇気から始まる何か、一人の覚悟から始まる何かほど、強いものはありません。世界中の女性たちが「私の未来は、私が決める」と、自信をもって言える時代が一日も早く訪れますように。

Today, it is an honour for me to be speaking again after a long time. Being here with such honourable people is a great moment in my life.
今日、久しぶりにこうしてまたスピーチを行えてとても光栄です。このような尊敬すべき人たちと共にこのような場にいるなんて、私の人生においても、とてもすばらしい瞬間です。

I don’t know where to begin my speech. I don’t know what people would be expecting me to say. But first of all, thank you to God for whom we all are equal and thank you to every person who has prayed for my fast recovery and a new life.

I cannot believe how much love people have shown me. I have received thousands of good wish cards and gifts from all over the world. Thank you to all of them. Thank you to the children whose innocent words encouraged me. Thank you to my elders whose prayers strengthened me.

Dear brothers and sisters, do remember one thing. Malala day is not my day. Today is the day of every woman, every boy and every girl who have raised their voice for their rights.

There are hundreds of Human rights activists and social workers who are not only speaking for human rights, but who are struggling to achieve their goals of education, peace and equality. Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. I am just one of them.
何百人もの人権活動家、そしてソーシャルワーカーたちがいます。彼らは人権について訴えるだけではなく、教育、平和、そして平等という目標を達成するために闘っています。
何千もの人々がテロリストに命を奪われ、何百万もの人たちが傷つけられています。私もその1人です。
So here I stand… one girl among many.
そして、私はここに立っています。傷ついた数多くの人たちのなかの、一人の少女です。
I speak – not for myself, but for all girls and boys.
私は訴えます。自分自身のためではありません。すべての少年少女のためにです。
I raise up my voice – not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.

Those who have fought for their rights:
それは、自分たちの権利のために闘っている人たちのことです。
Their right to live in peace.
平和に生活する権利、
Their right to be treated with dignity.
尊厳を持って扱われる権利、
Their right to equality of opportunity.
均等な機会の権利、
Their right to be educated.
そして教育を受ける権利です。
Dear Friends, on the 9th of October 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought that the bullets would silence us. But they failed. And then, out of that silence came, thousands of voices.
親愛なるみなさん、2012年10月9日、タリバンは私の額の左側を銃で撃ちました。私の友人も撃たれました。彼らは銃弾で私たちを黙らせようと考えたのです。でも失敗しました。私たちが沈黙したそのとき、数えきれないほどの声が上がったのです。
The terrorists thought that they would change our aims and stop our ambitions but nothing changed in my life except this: Weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born.
テロリストたちは私たちの目的を変更させ、志を阻止しようと考えたのでしょう。しかし、私の人生で変わったものは何一つありません。次のものを除いて、です。私の中で弱さ、恐怖、絶望が死にました。強さ、力、そして勇気が生まれたのです。
I am the same Malala. My ambitions are the same. My hopes are the same. My dreams are the same.
私はこれまでと変わらず「マララ」のままです。そして、私の志もまったく変わりません。私の希望も、夢もまったく変わっていないのです。
Dear sisters and brothers, I am not against anyone. Neither am I here to speak in terms of personal revenge against the Taliban or any other terrorists group. I am here to speak up for the right of education of every child.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私は誰にも抗議していません。タリバンや他のテロリストグループへの個人的な復讐心から、ここでスピーチをしているわけでもありません。ここで話している目的は、すべての子どもたちに教育が与えられる権利をはっきりと主張することにあります。
I want education for the sons and the daughters of all the extremists especially the Taliban.
すべての過激派、とりわけタリバンの息子や娘たちのために教育が必要だと思うのです。
I do not even hate the Taliban who shot me. Even if there is a gun in my hand and he stands in front of me. I would not shoot him.
私は、自分を撃ったタリバン兵士さえも憎んではいません。私が銃を手にして、彼が私の前に立っていたとしても、私は彼を撃たないでしょう。
This is the compassion that I have learnt from Muhammad-the prophet of mercy, Jesus christ and Lord Buddha. This is the legacy of change that I have inherited from Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

And this is the forgiveness that I have learnt from my mother and father. This is what my soul is telling me, be peaceful and love everyone.

Dear sisters and brothers, we realise the importance of light when we see darkness. We realise the importance of our voice when we are silenced. In the same way, when we were in Swat, the north of Pakistan, we realised the importance of pens and books when we saw the guns.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私たちは暗闇のなかにいると、光の大切さに気づきます。私たちは沈黙させられると、声を上げることの大切さに気づきます。同じように、私たちがパキスタン北部のスワートにいて、銃を目にしたとき、ペンと本の大切さに気づきました。
The wise saying, “The pen is mightier than sword” was true. The extremists are afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them.
「ペンは剣よりも強し」ということわざがあります。これは真実です。過激派は本とペンを恐れます。教育の力が彼らを恐れさせます。彼らは女性を恐れています。女性の声の力が彼らを恐れさせるのです。
And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent attack in Quetta. And that is why they killed many female teachers and polio workers in Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa and FATA.
だから彼らは、先日クエッタを攻撃したとき、14人の罪のない医学生を殺したのです。
だから彼らは、多くの女性教師や、カイバル・パクトゥンクワやFATA（連邦直轄部族地域／パキスタン北西部国境地帯）にいるポリオの研究者たちを殺害したのです。
That is why they are blasting schools every day. Because they were and they are afraid of change, afraid of the equality that we will bring into our society.

I remember that there was a boy in our school who was asked by a journalist, “Why are the Taliban against education?” He answered very simply. By pointing to his book he said, “A Talib doesn’t know what is written inside this book.”

They think that God is a tiny, little conservative being who would send girls to the hell just because of going to school. The terrorists are misusing the name of Islam and Pashtun society for their own personal benefits.

Pakistan is peace-loving democratic country. Pashtuns want education for their daughters and sons. And Islam is a religion of peace, humanity and brotherhood. Islam says that it is not only each child’s right to get education, rather it is their duty and responsibility.
パキスタンは平和を愛する民主的な国です。パシュトゥン人は自分たちの娘や息子に教育を与えたいと思っています。イスラムは平和、慈悲、兄弟愛の宗教です。すべての子どもに教育を与えることは義務であり責任である、と言っています。
Honourable Secretary General, peace is necessary for education. In many parts of the world especially Pakistan and Afghanistan; terrorism, wars and conflicts stop children to go to their schools. We are really tired of these wars.
親愛なる国連事務総長、教育には平和が欠かせません。世界の多くの場所では、特にパキスタンとアフガニスタンでは、テロリズム、戦争、紛争のせいで子どもたちは学校に行けません。私たちは本当にこういった戦争にうんざりしています。
Women and children are suffering in many parts of the world in many ways. In India, innocent and poor children are victims of child labour. Many schools have been destroyed in Nigeria. People in Afghanistan have been affected by the hurdles of extremism for decades.
女性と子どもは、世界の多くの場所で、さまざまな形で、被害を受けています。
インドでは、純真で恵まれない子どもたちが児童労働の犠牲者となっています。ナイジェリアでは多くの学校が破壊されています。アフガニスタンでは人々が過激派の妨害に長年苦しめられています。
Young girls have to do domestic child labour and are forced to get married at early age. Poverty, ignorance, injustice, racism and the deprivation of basic rights are the main problems faced by both men and women.
幼い少女は家で労働をさせられ、低年齢での結婚を強要されます。
貧困、無学、不正、人種差別、そして基本的権利の剥奪――これらが、男女共に直面している主な問題なのです。
Dear fellows, today I am focusing on women’s rights and girls’ education because they are suffering the most. There was a time when women social activists asked men to stand up for their rights.
親愛なるみなさん、本日、私は女性の権利と女の子の教育という点に絞ってお話します。なぜなら、彼らがいちばん苦しめられているからです。かつては、女性の社会活動家たちが、女性の権利の為に立ち上がってほしいと男の人たちに求めていました。
But, this time, we will do it by ourselves. I am not telling men to step away from speaking for women’s rights rather I am focusing on women to be independent to fight for themselves.
しかし今、私たちはそれを自分たちで行うのです。男の人たちに、女性の権利のために活動するのを止めてくれ、と言っているわけではありません。女性が自立し、自分たちの力で闘うことに絞ってお話をしたいのです。
Dear sisters and brothers, now it’s time to speak up.
親愛なる少女、少年のみなさん、今こそ声に出して言う時です。
So today, we call upon the world leaders to change their strategic policies in favour of peace and prosperity.
そこで今日、私たちは世界のリーダーたちに、平和と繁栄のために重点政策を変更してほしいと呼びかけます。
We call upon the world leaders that all the peace deals must protect women and children’s rights. A deal that goes against the dignity of women and their rights is unacceptable.
世界のリーダーたちに、すべての和平協定が女性と子どもの権利を守るものでなければならないと呼びかけます。
女性の尊厳と権利に反する政策は受け入れられるものではありません。
We call upon all governments to ensure free compulsory education for every child all over the world.
私たちはすべての政府に、全世界のすべての子どもたちへ無料の義務教育を確実に与えることを求めます。
We call upon all governments to fight against terrorism and violence, to protect children from brutality and harm.
私たちはすべての政府に、テロリズムと暴力に立ち向かうことを求めます。残虐行為や危害から子どもたちを守ることを求めます。
We call upon the developed nations to support the expansion of educational opportunities for girls in the developing world.

We call upon all communities to be tolerant – to reject prejudice based on cast, creed, sect, religion or gender. To ensure freedom and equality for women so that they can flourish. We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.
私たちはすべての地域社会に、寛容であることを求めます。カースト、教義、宗派、皮膚の色、宗教、信条に基づいた偏見をなくすためです。女性の自由と平等を守れば、その地域は繁栄するはずです。私たち女性の半数が抑えつけられていたら、成し遂げることはできないでしょう。
We call upon our sisters around the world to be brave – to embrace the strength within themselves and realise their full potential.

Dear brothers and sisters, we want schools and education for every child’s bright future. We will continue our journey to our destination of peace and education for everyone.

No one can stop us. We will speak for our rights and we will bring change through our voice. We must believe in the power and the strength of our words. Our words can change the world.

Dear brothers and sisters, we must not forget that millions of people are suffering from poverty, injustice and ignorance. We must not forget that millions of children are out of schools. We must not forget that our sisters and brothers are waiting for a bright peaceful future.

So let us wage a global struggle against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism and let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons.

There are hundreds of Human rights activists and social workers who are not only speaking for human rights, but who are struggling to achieve their goals of education, peace and equality. Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. I am just one of them.
何百人もの人権活動家、そしてソーシャルワーカーたちがいます。彼らは人権について訴えるだけではなく、教育、平和、そして平等という目標を達成するために闘っています。
何千もの人々がテロリストに命を奪われ、何百万もの人たちが傷つけられています。私もその1人です。
So here I stand… one girl among many.
そして、私はここに立っています。傷ついた数多くの人たちのなかの、一人の少女です。
I speak – not for myself, but for all girls and boys.

I raise up my voice – not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.

Those who have fought for their rights:

Their right to live in peace.

Their right to be treated with dignity.

Their right to be educated.

Dear Friends, on the 9th of October 2012, the Taliban shot me on the left side of my forehead. They shot my friends too. They thought that the bullets would silence us. But they failed. And then, out of that silence came, thousands of voices.
親愛なるみなさん、2012年10月9日、タリバンは私の額の左側を銃で撃ちました。私の友人も撃たれました。彼らは銃弾で私たちを黙らせようと考えたのです。でも失敗しました。私たちが沈黙したそのとき、数えきれないほどの声が上がったのです。
The terrorists thought that they would change our aims and stop our ambitions but nothing changed in my life except this: Weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born.
テロリストたちは私たちの目的を変更させ、志を阻止しようと考えたのでしょう。しかし、私の人生で変わったものは何一つありません。次のものを除いて、です。私の中で弱さ、恐怖、絶望が死にました。強さ、力、そして勇気が生まれたのです。
I am the same Malala. My ambitions are the same. My hopes are the same. My dreams are the same.
私はこれまでと変わらず「マララ」のままです。そして、私の志もまったく変わりません。私の希望も、夢もまったく変わっていないのです。
Dear sisters and brothers, I am not against anyone. Neither am I here to speak in terms of personal revenge against the Taliban or any other terrorists group. I am here to speak up for the right of education of every child.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私は誰にも抗議していません。タリバンや他のテロリストグループへの個人的な復讐心から、ここでスピーチをしているわけでもありません。ここで話している目的は、すべての子どもたちに教育が与えられる権利をはっきりと主張することにあります。
I want education for the sons and the daughters of all the extremists especially the Taliban.

I do not even hate the Taliban who shot me. Even if there is a gun in my hand and he stands in front of me. I would not shoot him.

And this is the forgiveness that I have learnt from my mother and father. This is what my soul is telling me, be peaceful and love everyone.

Dear sisters and brothers, we realise the importance of light when we see darkness. We realise the importance of our voice when we are silenced. In the same way, when we were in Swat, the north of Pakistan, we realised the importance of pens and books when we saw the guns.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私たちは暗闇のなかにいると、光の大切さに気づきます。私たちは沈黙させられると、声を上げることの大切さに気づきます。同じように、私たちがパキスタン北部のスワートにいて、銃を目にしたとき、ペンと本の大切さに気づきました。
The wise saying, “The pen is mightier than sword” was true. The extremists are afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them.
「ペンは剣よりも強し」ということわざがあります。これは真実です。過激派は本とペンを恐れます。教育の力が彼らを恐れさせます。彼らは女性を恐れています。女性の声の力が彼らを恐れさせるのです。
And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent attack in Quetta. And that is why they killed many female teachers and polio workers in Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa and FATA.
だから彼らは、先日クエッタを攻撃したとき、14人の罪のない医学生を殺したのです。
だから彼らは、多くの女性教師や、カイバル・パクトゥンクワやFATA（連邦直轄部族地域／パキスタン北西部国境地帯）にいるポリオの研究者たちを殺害したのです。
That is why they are blasting schools every day. Because they were and they are afraid of change, afraid of the equality that we will bring into our society.
だから彼らは、毎日学校を破壊するのです。なぜなら、彼らは、私たちが自分たちの社会にもたらそうとした自由を、そして平等を恐れていたからです。そして彼らは、今もそれを恐れているからです。
I remember that there was a boy in our school who was asked by a journalist, “Why are the Taliban against education?” He answered very simply. By pointing to his book he said, “A Talib doesn’t know what is written inside this book.”
私たちの学校にいた少年に、あるジャーナリストがこんなことを尋ねていたのを覚えています。「なぜタリバンは教育に反対しているの?」。彼は自分の本を指さしながら、とてもシンプルに答えました。「タリバンはこの本の中に書かれていることがわからないからだよ」
They think that God is a tiny, little conservative being who would send girls to the hell just because of going to school. The terrorists are misusing the name of Islam and Pashtun society for their own personal benefits.
彼らは、神はちっぽけで取るに足りない、保守的な存在で、ただ学校に行っているというだけで女の子たちを地獄に送っているのだと考えています。テロリストたちは、イスラムの名を悪用し、パシュトゥン人社会を自分たちの個人的な利益のために悪用しています。
Pakistan is peace-loving democratic country. Pashtuns want education for their daughters and sons. And Islam is a religion of peace, humanity and brotherhood. Islam says that it is not only each child’s right to get education, rather it is their duty and responsibility.
パキスタンは平和を愛する民主的な国です。パシュトゥン人は自分たちの娘や息子に教育を与えたいと思っています。イスラムは平和、慈悲、兄弟愛の宗教です。すべての子どもに教育を与えることは義務であり責任である、と言っています。
Honourable Secretary General, peace is necessary for education. In many parts of the world especially Pakistan and Afghanistan; terrorism, wars and conflicts stop children to go to their schools. We are really tired of these wars.
親愛なる国連事務総長、教育には平和が欠かせません。世界の多くの場所では、特にパキスタンとアフガニスタンでは、テロリズム、戦争、紛争のせいで子どもたちは学校に行けません。私たちは本当にこういった戦争にうんざりしています。
Women and children are suffering in many parts of the world in many ways. In India, innocent and poor children are victims of child labour. Many schools have been destroyed in Nigeria. People in Afghanistan have been affected by the hurdles of extremism for decades.
女性と子どもは、世界の多くの場所で、さまざまな形で、被害を受けています。
インドでは、純真で恵まれない子どもたちが児童労働の犠牲者となっています。ナイジェリアでは多くの学校が破壊されています。アフガニスタンでは人々が過激派の妨害に長年苦しめられています。
Young girls have to do domestic child labour and are forced to get married at early age. Poverty, ignorance, injustice, racism and the deprivation of basic rights are the main problems faced by both men and women.
幼い少女は家で労働をさせられ、低年齢での結婚を強要されます。
貧困、無学、不正、人種差別、そして基本的権利の剥奪――これらが、男女共に直面している主な問題なのです。
Dear fellows, today I am focusing on women’s rights and girls’ education because they are suffering the most. There was a time when women social activists asked men to stand up for their rights.
親愛なるみなさん、本日、私は女性の権利と女の子の教育という点に絞ってお話します。なぜなら、彼らがいちばん苦しめられているからです。かつては、女性の社会活動家たちが、女性の権利の為に立ち上がってほしいと男の人たちに求めていました。
But, this time, we will do it by ourselves. I am not telling men to step away from speaking for women’s rights rather I am focusing on women to be independent to fight for themselves.
しかし今、私たちはそれを自分たちで行うのです。男の人たちに、女性の権利のために活動するのを止めてくれ、と言っているわけではありません。女性が自立し、自分たちの力で闘うことに絞ってお話をしたいのです。
Dear sisters and brothers, now it’s time to speak up.
親愛なる少女、少年のみなさん、今こそ声に出して言う時です。
So today, we call upon the world leaders to change their strategic policies in favour of peace and prosperity.
そこで今日、私たちは世界のリーダーたちに、平和と繁栄のために重点政策を変更してほしいと呼びかけます。
We call upon the world leaders that all the peace deals must protect women and children’s rights. A deal that goes against the dignity of women and their rights is unacceptable.
世界のリーダーたちに、すべての和平協定が女性と子どもの権利を守るものでなければならないと呼びかけます。
女性の尊厳と権利に反する政策は受け入れられるものではありません。
We call upon all governments to ensure free compulsory education for every child all over the world.
私たちはすべての政府に、全世界のすべての子どもたちへ無料の義務教育を確実に与えることを求めます。
We call upon all governments to fight against terrorism and violence, to protect children from brutality and harm.
私たちはすべての政府に、テロリズムと暴力に立ち向かうことを求めます。残虐行為や危害から子どもたちを守ることを求めます。
We call upon the developed nations to support the expansion of educational opportunities for girls in the developing world.
私たちは先進諸国に、発展途上国の女の子たちが教育を受ける機会を拡大するための支援を求めます。
We call upon all communities to be tolerant – to reject prejudice based on cast, creed, sect, religion or gender. To ensure freedom and equality for women so that they can flourish. We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.
私たちはすべての地域社会に、寛容であることを求めます。カースト、教義、宗派、皮膚の色、宗教、信条に基づいた偏見をなくすためです。女性の自由と平等を守れば、その地域は繁栄するはずです。私たち女性の半数が抑えつけられていたら、成し遂げることはできないでしょう。
We call upon our sisters around the world to be brave – to embrace the strength within themselves and realise their full potential.
私たちは世界中の女性たちに、勇敢になることを求めます。自分の中に込められた力をしっかりと手に入れ、そして自分たちの最大限の可能性を発揮してほしいのです。
Dear brothers and sisters, we want schools and education for every child’s bright future. We will continue our journey to our destination of peace and education for everyone.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私たちはすべての子どもたちの明るい未来のために、学校と教育を求めます。私たちは、「平和」と「すべての人に教育を」という目的地に到達するための旅を続けます。
No one can stop us. We will speak for our rights and we will bring change through our voice. We must believe in the power and the strength of our words. Our words can change the world.
誰にも私たちを止めることはできません。私たちは、自分たちの権利のために声を上げ、私たちの声を通じて変化をもたらします。自分たちの言葉の力を、強さを信じましょう。私たちの言葉は世界を変えられるのです。
Because we are all together, united for the cause of education. And if we want to achieve our goal, then let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.
なぜなら私たちは、教育という目標のために一つになり、連帯できるからです。そしてこの目標を達成するために、知識という武器を持って力を持ちましょう。そして連帯し、一つになって自分たちを守りましょう。
Dear brothers and sisters, we must not forget that millions of people are suffering from poverty, injustice and ignorance. We must not forget that millions of children are out of schools. We must not forget that our sisters and brothers are waiting for a bright peaceful future.
親愛なる少年少女のみなさん、私たちは今もなお何百万人もの人たちが貧困、不当な扱い、そして無学に苦しめられていることを忘れてはいけません。何百万人もの子どもたちが学校に行っていないことを忘れてはいけません。少女たち、少年たちが明るい、平和な未来を待ち望んでいることを忘れてはいけません。
So let us wage a global struggle against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism and let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons.
無学、貧困、そしてテロリズムと闘いましょう。本を手に取り、ペンを握りましょう。それが私たちにとってもっとも強力な武器なのです。
One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education First.Thank you.
