May is a very busy month for me....

African and Caribbean Literature
35% of my final grade
Due Date: 10 May 2010

This will be my most difficult essay. I chose this question:

"The only privilege literature deserves- and this privilege it requires in order to exist- is the privilege of being the place where the struggle of languages can be acted out." (Salman Rushdie)

"Let no one be fooled by the fact that we write in English for we intend to do unheard of things with it." (Chinua Achebe)

"Language carries culture, and culture carries, particularly through orature and literature, the entire body of values by which we come to perceive ourselves and our place in the world." (Ngugi wa Thiong'o)

With these comments in mind, write an essay on the "struggle of languages" in African and/or Caribbean texts you have read.

Art History: Neoclassicism and Romanticism

History of Victorian England
40% of my final grade
Due Date: 27 May 2010

I chose this question because I enjoy social history:

Discuss how leisure changed in the Victorian period (or some part thereof) and relate these changes to larger changes such as urbanisation, the commercialisation of culture, or secularization.

Ok, I'm going to go and do some study now......
