You might have written compositions but very few research papers, if at all, haven't you? Therefore, very few Japanese students know how to do researches. It requires some learning during the process of writing a report. You might familiarize yourselves how to use libraries, index systems, and most of all, the Internet search engines. But once you have learned how to conduct a research, you writing will astoundingly improve.
作文は書いたことがあっても、調査報告書といったものは、もしあっても、ほとんど書いたことがないでしょう？ ですから、日本人の学生でリサーチの仕方を知っている人はほとんどいません。レポートを書くプロセスの中で、少し勉強する必要があります。図書館や、インデックスシステム、そして特にインターネットの検索エンジンを学び使えるようになる必要があります。しかし、一度調査ができるようになると、書く論文が驚くほどうまくなります。
And please notice that research papers are always accompanied with “Works Cited” or “Refrences.” It is a must to add references not to benot to be accused of plagiarism or copyright infrigement. There are many students who are explled from schools for plagisarim and I have seen a few classmates who were expelled during my school days. Research papers are part of your learning: therefore, you need to learn what you do not know. In most instances, somewhere in the world, there are someone who have already studied or researched what you want to know or what your are about to find out that you didn't know. IF there is none, it is time for you to conduct your own research and write a book.
そして、調査報告書は必ず、「引用文献」や「参考文献」がつくことに気がついてください。これは、盗作や著作権違反で訴えられないためにも、加えることが不可欠です。盗作で学校を追放される学生は多くいます。私が学生だった頃にも、数人そうなったクラスメートがいました。調査論文というのは、学習のプロセスの一部です。知らなかったことを調べる必要があります。殆どの場合、世界のどこかに、あなたが知りたいこと、これから知らなかったことがわかることについて、研究調査した人がいます。そして、誰も居ないことがわかった場合は、今度はあなた自身が研究し、本を書く番です。

動詞の時制の一致のために、下線のついた語をどの形態にすればいいでしょう。

The earlier verb “arrived” is in the past tense and the subject “Native Americans” is in plural; therefore, to keep the past progressive form of the verb tense, the andwer is C.
前出の ”arrived” が過去形で、主語 ”Native Americans” が複数形ですから進行形を保つためにはC.
2. Read these sentences.
以下の文章を読んでください。
Though the act of the kernel of corn bursting takes place in a split second, the science behind the pop is a bit more complex. To understand it, you must understand the kernel itself.
How is the underlined sentence best written?
下線のついた文章はどのように書くのが最適ですか。
A. If one wants to understand this procedure, you must understand the kernel.
B. The kernel itself must be understood if comprehension of this process is to occur.
C. First, you need to familiarize yourself with the kernel to understand the popping method.

A: The act of popping is a process, not a procedure. The subjects “one” and “you” do not match.
弾ける現象は、プロセスであり、手順ではない。主語OneとYouが一致していない。
B: Instead of passive voice, it is better to use active voice. It sounds more dynamic.
受動態を使うより、能動態を使うほうが良い。ダイナミックな感じがする。
C: The writer is talking about the process not the method of popping.
書き手は弾けるプロセスを言っているのであって、方法ではない。
D. is the answer. 正解は D.
