It’s been six years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.

I will be spending the day with a gratitude

for being together with someone special,

for morning, afternoon and evening,

which should never be taken for granted

although they seem to be so natural.

I remember that Princess Michiko said to the victims of the disaster,

holding their hands,

“Thank you for surviving.”

I am struck by this story as this tells me how being alive means.

Compared to those who are brave and still fighting with hardships,

I am nothing.

But I live today with my sincere gratitude.
