During the Italian general election (Elezioni politiche italiane del 2022), I was horrified to see that the coalition of far-right parties formed by Silvio Berlusconi, Matteo Salvini, and Giorgia Meloni had the majority support of the Italian people.
On September 26th, a day after the vote count on September 25th, Giorgia Meloni became the new President (Kirby 2022).

In addition to Meloni's skeptical comments about support for Ukraine during the campaign,
”Her allies have both had close ties with Russia. Mr Berlusconi, 85, claimed last week that Vladimir Putin was pushed into invading Ukraine while Mr Salvini has called into question Western sanctions on Moscow)”(ibid.),
So,I had feared that if a far-right government came to power in Italy after the election, Italy would disrupt Europe's support for Ukraine.
However, on the 30th, Meloni made the following statements.
"The declaration of annexation to the Russian Federation of four Ukrainian regions following sham referendums held under violent military occupation has no legal or political value"(AFP 2022),
"Russian President Vladimir Putin "once again demonstrates his neo-imperialist, Soviet-style vision, which threatens the security of the entire European continent"(ibid.),
"This further violation by Russia of the rules of coexistence between nations confirms the need for unity by Western democracies)"(loc.cit.).

These statements can be seen as Italy's continued support for Ukraine in coordination with the West, and On the 26th, on Twitter, Ms. Meloni affirmed to Mr. Zelensky that he would continue his support, then they made me feel relieved.
However, Vito Laterza, an associate professor at the University of Agder, and Joe Biden, the president of the United States, have warned that Giorgia Meloni's victory in the Italian general election is a crisis for democracy(Laterza 2022; AFP 2022b).

It is up to the new Italian government to decide what kind of choice it will make, but I would like the new Italian government to ponder how it will put its "Italy First" policy into practice, bearing in mind that the invasion and aggression against Ukraine is a manifestation of Putin's selfish Russiocentrism, which has resulted in economic sanctions from other countries and caused the economic crisis in his own country, Russia.

イタリアの新政権がどの様な選択をするかは、彼ら次第だが、
プーチンの身勝手なロシア中心主義の発露としての、ウクライナ侵攻・侵略であり、
その結果、諸国からの経済制裁を招き、自国ロシアの経済危機を引き起こしているのだ、
という事を念頭に措いた上で、
イタリア新政権は、そのイタリア第一主義をどう実践するのかを熟慮して頂きたい。
