Stanley Fish is an American literary theorist and legal scholar. He is the Davidson-Kahn Distinguished University Professor of Humanities and a professor of law at Florida International University, in Miami, as well as Dean Emeritus of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the author of 12 books. Fish: I am attracted to sentences, as I say, that knock your socks off, that you wonder as you read them, after you just read them, “How could someone who uses the same language I do produce that and I can't. And those are the sentences I tend to collect, almost as you might collect videos of great athletic moments. And those are sentences I try to share both with my students and with the readers of the book.
