While translating my blog, "Hurricane Irene," I had reported that its precipitation had been increasing. That evening on the US east coast (August 28 morning in Japan time), Irene was in full force in our area. Strong winds and rain knocked down many trees and broke many boughs. But Irene left our area relatively unscathed.


このブログで「Hurricane Irene」の日本語版を書いている時、雨足が早くなってきたとお伝えしました。米国東部ではその夜、（日本時間の8月28日の朝）アイリーンが我々の地域で猛威を振るいました。暴風雨が多くの木を倒し、大枝をもぎ取って行きました。しかし、我々のいる地域は比較的無傷でアイリーンを見送りました。


Although Irene was a category one hurricane and quickly dissipated to a tropical storm, the enormous damage was due to flooding in the areas where it infrequently occurs.


ハリケーン・アイリーンはカテゴリー・ワンのハリケーンで、急速に熱帯暴風雨へと勢力を弱めましたが、多大な損害は通常起こらない地域に起こった洪水によるものでした。
